COME, TOMORROW |
Based of the Dead Souls from Nikolaï Gogol |
Adaptation and production Igor Neupokoyev
This is the story of Captain Kopeikine who lost an arm and a leg in 1812 during the battle of Leipzig. Infirm, not being able to work anymore, he went to see the highest governmental authorities asking them, on a continuous basis,a pension in order not to die due to hunger. " Come, tomorrow" was always the answer. Tired of such an answer, Kopeikine found the mean to provide for his needs but in a so unusual way that he finally touched the Emporor's heart. From these days, a special fund dedicated to the invalids has been implemented.

The director :
Igor Neupokoyev : Igor is a professional working both for theatre and cinema and is well-known in Moscow. Despite a booked professional carrier, he manages in 1998 a theatre training session for young trisomic 21 adults. The results are so astonishing and so good that he creates in 1999 a theatre laboratory which will be called : Theater of the Simple-Hearted. As of today, 17 trisomic artists do belong to this company.
The players :
Sergei Makaroff performs Captain Kopeikine's character, Dmitry Poliakov , Ruslan Vanyan , Maria Nefyedova , Helen Chumakova, Anton Debeloff ,Helen Serna. All of them are excellent players and some of them do perform several characters in this play. Many of them are also musicians, which gives them a huge liberty in their interpretation.

These seven players who prepare themselves to go on stage and be under the spotlights are an exception in Russia where most of the trisomic's people are kept in the shadow. The success faced by this company, which plays twice a month in a small theatre in Moscow, represents a great hope for thousands of Disabled living in Russia.
The B.B.C has made a very interesting documentary about this company.
