VOYAGE EN CAUCHEMANCE

By Nicole Sigal

FRIDAY 10 OCTOBER 2008 at 2.30pm and 8.30pm

THEATRE - France

Directed by
Michel Reynaud

with the actors of
the ESAT
EURYDICE company

An entire village, adults, children and animals, decides to set off together to visit the world and find a wonderful, undiscovered place to live. Colourful characters: The Philosopher, The Widowed Widow, The Owner of the Traveller's Inn, President Me-me-me and First Dame, The Very Old Lady, Household Confidence, Undesirable Ideas, Boss-Boss and his accomplice Second in Command, Poverty, Exclusion, The Loose Woman, The Girl who knows a lot.

A burlesque and dreamlike universe with caustic humour. A contemporary farce.

Nicole Sigal :
A novelist and playwright, Nicole Sigal is also an actress and a painter (permanent artist at the Claude Lemand gallery, Paris).

Nicole began writing in 1998. Her novels are published by the Editions Denoël and L'Amandier, and her plays by L'Amandier, Crater and La Fontaine (Youth Theatre). She soon received rave reviews from the press for her "happy" and "poetic" style. With a caustic humour which panders to no one, she accurately blends original images which channel violence and fantasies and break certain taboos.

For " Voyage en Cauchemance",  she obtained a residency grant from the Ile de France Regional Council in 2008 to write for the company of psychologically disabled actors from the Théâtre Eurydice, a professional theatre which produces plays, decors and costumes, and provides cultural and other services to companies in order to enable "disabled workers" to access the professions of the theatre.

A play bringing together disability and culture, and focusing in particular on schools to help teachers raise pupils' and young people's awareness of disability-related issues. The author creates a link between ESAT EURYDICE and the young people who learn the work in progress of a playwright and are, at the same time, made aware of disability issues.

This "transmission of information" has given rise to writing workshops and meetings with the actors of the EURYDICE company.

A play for all audiences from 10 years of age - families welcome!
Simultaneously interpreted in sign language
