The Maité Léon Psico Ballet Foundation was formed in 1986 by Maité Léon Fritsch, a dance teacher, choreographer and mother of a mentally disabled daughter. Her professionalism and unceasing investigative work led to the creation of the "Maité Léon Psico Ballet" approach.
Beyond a mere therapeutic project, this approach stems from a desire to create beauty and provide a new perspective on disabled people. This is achieved through the production of shows in which respect for the audience and professionalism are of fundamental importance, and where the rigid discipline of theatre allows the continual creation of deeply moving acts. The company is made up of 32 dancers, all affected by mental illness or disability.
(Medal-winner for best international disabled dance act - Italy, 2001 Recognized for European excellence for its contribution to disabled people's social integration through artistic expression - UNESCO Grand Prix , 2002). The company tours world-wide.
From the press :
" Psico Ballet is the art of movement, a source of creative inspiration. Everything is mixed, mingling to create a tension like the kiss between Beauty and the Beast, sweeping aside all those stifling prejudices with passion ".
" Emotion, nerves, haste, respect! These twisted bodies teach a different language between the head and the heart, between reason and passion, and make us wonder ".
